And today\u2019s reason we are an endangered species is:\u00a0traitors. A\u00a0traitor\u00a0is someone who betrays another’s trust or is false to an obligation or duty. Well, in that case, we are all\u00a0traitors. We\u2019ve placed our trust in each other – each other being people from all walks of life, who work at the bakery or big Pharma or the guy who reads your local news or your favourite influencer or kindergarten teacher – and we all collectively said: it\u2019s gonna be fine. No, it won\u2019t. It would have been our duty and obligation to face the reality of the situation early on and say: guys, this is it. We did this to each other, to the atmosphere, to the planktons, to the now extinct passenger pigeon or Javan tiger and the planet. We are the ones who endangered ourselves as a species and we betrayed ourselves and our home. I\u2019ve spent the past weeks at the Cannes Film Festival for work and the message was this: the world is burning, but we should be watching movies. And I don\u2019t blame them. It\u2019s a tale as old as time, consistent with what we\u2019ve been telling each other for millennia: everything will be alright in the end. If it\u2019s not alright, it\u2019s not the end. The thing of it is, though: we\u2019ve always had the essential elements of life.
